PERSONAL STATEMENT

At the end of my sophomore year at St. John’s University, I changed my major from criminal justice to journalism. I knew that I would have to spend an extra year in school to finish, but my passion for writing and purposeful storytelling was worth the burden. I began to engage in programs that would change the trajectory of my career, by becoming a writing consultant and a contributing writer for their school newspaper, The Torch. I fell in love with delivering engaging and Informative information to the public, and when I transferred to Temple University, I continued that journey wholeheartedly.

I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with major local outlets like WHYY and Kensington Voice, to hone my writing skills and develop a strong foundation for print work and photojournalism. My coursework at Temple and active roles at their outlets like The Temple News and The Temp have allowed me to produce multimedia stories and become well-versed in editing, scriptwriting, and broadcast production. After graduating this May, I plan to continue my work as a multimedia journalist in what some today call a “dying field”. I aim to do my absolute best to seek out the stories our local communities need and report it In a way that moves people.
